I have wanted to be a writer since the tender age of 7. My first story ever written was "Dear, Mr. Crow". It made my family laugh, and this encouraged me to write more short stories for several years.
Many have gotten lost over the years, but the ones I kept are tucked away in my memory box.
I stopped writing after having a family, but have been back into it for many years. My dream is to write a children's book. Learning to read is a basic need and I would like to be the inspiration for the love of reading.
I have been a nature lover my whole life. Barefoot is best. I would rather be out, than in.
As a child, I would forage for wild food, and was always delighted to find wild grapes growing where my Dad use to fish. I think this was my true start on my path to herbalism.
As a teen, I would spend many hours under a tree, thinking, drawing, or writing in my journal. I still have those journals, and it is funny to look back on them.
I took up cooking at an early age. We won't talk about my first chocolate cake. Can we say brick? It made a good paper weight, but was totally inedible. I moved on from that mistake, and I now love to cook. I don't like to follow recipes, and would rather create my own. This has led to many delicious meals for my family.
After I had children, we too spent many hours in the woods. Hiking, picnicing, and forarging. I taught them the wonders of foraging for wild, and free foods as they grew. We spent many hours searching out just the right spot for things like sumac to make Indian lemonade, and pineapple weed to make tea. I look forward to the day when I can take my grand daugther on her first hike to pick wild edibles.
My love of nature led me down the path to herbs. I was studying aromatherapy, and discovered that all these herbs had many powerful healing benefits. I went back to school to study herbalism, and became a Clinical Medical Herbalist in 2002. My greatest class ever was when I got to be included into a seminar led by European herbalist and author Juliette de Bairacli Levy, mother of modern herbal medicine.
I went on to study nutrition, and the healing benefits of Bach Flower remedies.
I have written several articles over the years for newspapers, magazines and online health sites. I am working on my first book on herbal healing.
My writings are mostly about herbs and herbal medicine and natural healing. At times, the artist in me sometimes takes over, and I like write about sewing, painting, photograpy, and other craft ideas.
I also like to write about family. Family is important. It's part of who we are.
I'm a big history buff, and love to read, and write about history, and historical places. My love of history, led to me sewing Victorian Clothes as a side hobby.
I hope you enjoy reading.
